A general anaesthesia is an anaesthetic for the whole body. The body relaxes and the person feels no pain when operated on. It's like a deep sleep. A general anaesthesia must be administered by an anaesthetist. The doctor supervises the patient during sleep. After the operation the anaesthesia will wear off. The patient wakes up again.
